The Best Location in Lansdowne
The Himalayas
AstreVue is a 17-room resort located at a scenic spot at an elevation of 1550 metres (5000 ft) above sea level in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
Established in 2017, it is a home-grown property managed by a single family and about a dozen employees.
On clear days the property has an excellent view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks around the Gangotri glacier in the north, and overlooks two deep valleys to the northeast and southwest.
The quaint cantonment town of Lansdowne, with its churches and colonial hill station feel, is a 30-minute drive from AstreVue.
The steep hill slopes around the property are forested with pine, oak, cypress, and a variety of indigenous shrubs/trees such as the local bayberry (kafal).
Enjoy the AstreVue Lawns
AstreVue is a good staging location for wider exploration of the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas, most of the famous destinations of Uttarakhand being within a days driving distance.
Sunrise from AstreVue
The weather at AstreVue stays pleasant most of the year. Daytime temperatures in the shade stay within the 20s throughout the year except during cold spells in the winter when it is a pleasure to soak in the sun.
Sunset from AstreVue
It is, thus, the ideal getaway from the plains from April through June, complete with morning and evening walks, and nights just cold enough for the bonfire to be enjoyable.
View from AstreVue
For those who like the rains, the monsoon months of July and August are invariably wet and the property is surrounded by clouds that will come into your room if you leave the door open.
Occasionally the clouds lift to reveal amazingly clear views of the valleys and breathtakingly colourful evening skies. For those who aim to explore the outdoors, September to March is best.
Treks up the hills or down to the valleys are more exhilarating than exhausting, not to speak of the stunning scenery all around. Birds abound along the trails if you have an eye for them, together with the occasional barking deer, red fox, and mountain goat.
